Our Core Values Of Care
An Integrative Approach
In addition to practicing Functional Medicine, Dr. King is Board Certified in Integrative Medicine, and, thus, it is a fundamental part of her practice. Integrative medicine incorporates the best of Eastern and Western medicine to treat the whole person: mind, body, and spirit.
Drawing from evidence-based ancient healing modalities, Dr. Courtney King has various therapeutic options for her patients to relieve symptoms, reduce stress, maintain well-being, and enhance resilience. We use food as medicine for the foundation for health, but we also use supplements, botanicals, and even prescription medications when needed, to support your body while it heals.
Dr. Courtney draws from her knowledge of these diverse healing modalities to suggest effective strategies to significantly improve your physical, mental, and spiritual health.
Dedicated Practice
Golden Road patients receive dedicated attention directly from Dr. Courtney King herself. Her practice is limited to less than 10% of her previous patient volume, to give her patients the time they need, and the attention they deserve!
Her hours are by appointment only, and she will make herself available to you at times that fit your life: before work, over lunch, or after you put your kids to sleep.
Golden Road offers HIPPA compliant telemedicine appointments so that you do not have to leave the comfort of your own home or office to keep up on your health. No more long waits in traffic or trouble finding parking. Golden Road members have unlimited access via email as well to address things as they come up in life. Dr. Courtney is here to make your life less stressful!
Dr. Courtney will work in conjunction with your primary care physician to keep them in the loop regarding your progress and inform them of any medication changes that you may be making with us.
Personalized Care
Your journey is different from everyone else’s. Your health care should be too!
Would you feel your sexiest in one-size-fits-all jeans? Almost every other industry acknowledges that we are very different from one another. In medicine, we are just beginning to leverage the customized medicine that can be provided based on emerging genetic studies and advanced blood, saliva, urine and stool tests. We will get to the root cause of your disease – by way of your own story, and by using diagnostic lab tests that your current doctor may not even know exist.
In addition to discovering any imbalances in your key nutrients, gut, hormones, and detoxification pathways, Dr. Courtney will explore your situation holistically, uncovering triggers and mediators in your life experiences, your home, and work. She also addresses your current mental state, to arrive at an individualized “lifestyle prescription” that puts you back on your Golden Road to health.
Innovative Treatments
Did you know that it takes on average 17 years for clinical breakthroughs to make their way into the standard of care? At Golden Road, we are committed to shortening that ridiculous lag time.
Doctors need to be life-long learners, and we are continuously upgrading our wisdom through sharing best practices with other Functional Doctors and seeking out innovative, out-of-the-box ideas to help our patients achieve their health goals.
Dr. Courtney stays on top of new and emerging science to bring you cutting edge treatments and protocols, as they come to light, not 17 years later.
Root Cause Resolution
Unlike traditional doctors, Courtney King focuses on root cause resolution – isolating the key imbalance, or imbalances, that are responsible for virtually all the symptoms you’re experiencing right now.
Also known as Functional Medicine, this methodology seeks to give you solutions to health problems, not more bandaids/pills to cover up the symptoms.
We want to help you taper/decrease dependence on pharmaceutical medications that are merely managing your symptoms, while your underlying root issues continue to progress. No more treating side effects of drugs, with even more drugs!!
Creating Community Health
Just like your gut bacteria thrive on symbiotic, mutually beneficial relationships, your desired health outcome is optimized through the power of your community.
Studies show that loneliness and isolation ranked higher in chronic disease-related deaths than smoking cigarettes, excessive alcohol use, or being completely physically inactive!!
Golden Road leverages community support and accountability – with both your current support network, as well as with fellow like-minded patients seeking true health. Dr. Courtney encourages real food dinner parties, community gatherings, and “walks with your doc” in nature, to get us all together. After all, “Community is the guru of the future”! – Thich Nhat Hanh

Meet Dr. Courtney King
Dr. Courtney King is board certified in both Family Medicine and in Integrative Medicine. She is a Functional Medicine Practitioner, a Medical Acupuncturist, and is also trained in Ayurvedic Medicine. As an advocate for science-based natural and holistic treatments, she finds and addresses the root cause of disease for the whole family.
Courtney was born and raised in Atlanta, Ga., and graduated from Brown University with a very liberal arts degree in Psychology. After graduation, she spent 2 years traveling and teaching scuba diving around the world. Upon return to the states, she taught kids skiing and trained to be a Wilderness First Responder in Tahoe, then settled down in San Francisco. Realizing her calling to Medicine, she completed a Pre-Med Post Baccalaureate program at SF State, ran a tutoring business for kids with ADHD, and did medical volunteerism throughout Peru and Brazil. She then returned to her home state to attend the Medical College of Georgia.
During Medical school she studied Complementary and Alternative Medicine with Dr. Andrew Weil in Tucson, learned Traditional Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture in Beijing, worked with a shaman to understand deeper spiritual healing in the Sacred Valley of Peru, and in off time did medical volunteer work in underserved areas in Ghana, Mali, Togo and Benin.….in addition to the traditional allopathic med school curriculum.
After med school, Dr. King completed training in Medical Acupuncture through the Helms Institute, and an Ayurvedic Practitioner course at the Dhyana Center, before starting her Family Medicine residency in Fort Collins, CO. There, she spent elective rotations working with Integrative and Functional doctors in the community, while treating patients in her traditional clinic. After residency, she and her family chose to settle down in beautiful Sonoma County, Ca. where she accepted a job at a large medical group (“Big Medicine”).
After 7 years of working as a Family doctor in the current medical system, Dr. King became overly aware of the limitations that “conventional” medicine posed. Feeling frustrated with the hindering time constraints, limited lab testing, suffering patients with “normal range labs”, side-effects from pharmaceutical medications, and not getting to really know many of her 1,850 patients, she knew she had to make a change. Courtney started Golden Road Integrative and Functional Medicine to create more meaningful patient relationships, and to help people heal their roots, elevate their minds, and enjoy their life!
She lives in Santa Rosa, California with her supportive & fun husband, 2 young kids (one boy and one girl), and their Boston Terrier, Topper.
Golden Road Philosophy
We want you to have true health. The World Health Organization defines health as, “a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.” Conventional medicine today is disease management, more than actual health care. Furthermore, most pharmaceutical medications are taking patients even farther from the definition of true health. When finding and treating the root causes of your dis-ease, you can bring about healing, and you can prevent further (worse) problems down the road. Long-term, sustainable, true health.
We want you to have a doctor that you can trust, that has time to listen to you and answer all of your questions, that makes no judgement about your past (or current) choices, and that makes you feel like you have a caring partner riding shotgun with you on your health journey.
Partner with Dr. Courtney King to unravel where you have been, what factors have contributed to your current state of well being, and what things in your life are continuing to mediate your disease. Get the support (mentally, physically, and spiritually), with nutraceuticals, botanicals, and meds when needed, while you make the changes in life that your body needs to thrive.
